When it comes to self-care, Ayurveda emphasis a lot of measure which one can bring into their lives to take care of oneself. These were classically called Dinacharya (Daily regimen), which consist of aspects from when to get up, oral hygiene, eye care, oil massage, exercise, bathing, righteous conduct, personal hygiene and more. One of the main process that is prescribed as regular routine to be practiced for Oral, Dental and Facial health, is to pull or move or hold various kinds of liquids inside the mouth. This ancient practice is well known is many parts of the world and especially in India, it is commonly practiced.
Classically, In Ayurveda, two methods are mentioned for this process.
- Kavala: In this process, a small portion of medicated liquid is allowed to move inside the mouth. (Pulling)
- Gandusha: In this process, the mouth is filled with medicated liquid and kept still.
These medicated liquids can Kwatha (Decoctions), Madhu (Honey) Ghrita (Clarified Butter), Taila (Oil), Usnodaka (Hot water) and more.
The benefits of doing this regularly are mentioned as below:

Recommended Usage:
- Take 5 ml of Dental SutraA and move the oil inside the mouth for 5 -10 min or till the oil feel more thin, watery and nearly fills the mouth cavity. Classical it is done till the filling of throat with oropharyngeal secretions (kaphapurnaashyata) & watery discharge from nose and eyes (kanthasrava and akshisrava) is seen.
- We advise to move the oil from left to right, up down and in circular manner to help strengthen the facial muscle and reduce flabbiness of face. This is like an exercise for the facial muscles.
- Once the mouth feels full, hold it for a minute.
- Spit the content and rinse the mouth with warm water.
- You can now brush your teeth with your regular toothpaste or toothpowder.
- It is recommended not to eat or drink for 10-15 mins.
- We recommend using the product for maximum of 2 months and then give a break for at latest a month before using it again.

2 Amrapallava - Mangifera indica 6 gms
3 Tulasi - Ocimum sanctum Linn 9 gms
4 Madhurika - Foeniculum vulgare 9 gms
5 Yastimadhu - Glycyrrhiza glabra Linn 6 gms
6 Ela - Elettaria cardamomum Maton 1 gms
7 Tvak - Cinnamomum zeylanica Blume 2 gms
8 Lavanaga -Syzygium aromaticum Linn 3 gms
9 Saindhava Lavana - Rock Salt 1 gm
10 Pudina Taila - Menta piperita 2 ml
11 Tvak Taila - Cinnamomum zeylanica Blume 1 ml
12 Lavanga Taila - Syzygium aromaticum Linn 2 ml
13 Tulasi Taila - Ocimum sanctum Linn .5 ml
Follow these simple tips to keep your teeth and gums healthy:
- Brush your teeth twice a day with an herbal and chemical free toothpaste or toothpowder.
- Do oil pulling once a day, especially before the morning brushing.
- Clean between teeth regularly to remove plaque. Use dental floss or a special brush recommended by a dental professional.
- Don’t smoke. Smoking increases your chance of gum disease and oral cancer.
- Avoid eating pan, Gutka, tobacco and other irritants to reduce teeth stain and oral inflammation.
- Eat a well-balanced diet and exercise regularly.
- Limit sugary drinks and food, such as soda & candy.
- Visit your dentist for routine check-ups and professional cleaning.
